A committed Governance
At the intersection of associative engagement and financial principles, France Active has established a governance structure that reflects its values: collaborative and open. Because partnerships are essential to creating impact-driven enterprises, France Active sought to replicate, within its governance structure, the diversity it champions in the field. Those who make up France Active are involved in decision-making in a spirit of transparency and democracy.
France Active
As a key player in the social and solidarity economy, France Active is organized as a nonprofit association. Its revenue comes from both grants and its own activities. While it is not intended to generate profits, it has established a network contribution fund. Through this fund, it is able to pool its resources and reinvest them in the operations of its national association and its regional associations.
Its Board of Directors reflects the diversity of its membership. Since France Active brings together entrepreneurs, stakeholders from the financial sector, the public and private sectors, institutions, and associations, its Board serves as a crossroads for all these worlds. This diversity in decision-making ensures transparency for the association.
Board members collaboratively shape France Active’s strategic direction. Regional meetings are regularly organized for this purpose, providing numerous opportunities to ensure the movement’s democratic expression.
The Board of Directors is composed of four colleges, all of which are stakeholders in the development of the social and solidarity economy SSE.
The Board of Directors:
- approves the financial statements,
- votes on the strategic direction of the association’s mission,
- and sets the roadmap for the movement’s two financial companies.

France Active Investissement (FAI)
FAI is a SAS (simplified joint-stock company) with variable capital. This legal status provides a strict regulatory framework for all financing and investment activities. It also allows for the raising of capital that is invested in beneficiary companies and associations.
FAI’s Board of Directors is composed of public and private investors: banks, insurance companies, mutual insurance companies, regional governments, etc. Since FAI benefits from solidarity savings—which may include employee savings—employee representatives are also part of its governance structure and are involved in decision-making.
